Band of The Royal Regiment of Canada

Remembrance Day Service 2011 by St James Cathedral – Toronto, ON

We are grateful for the performance of the Liberation of the Netherlands Concert in the presence of HRH Princess Margriet of the Netherlands, and the families of our "Huron County 20" who were present and were honoured for their sacrifice.

The Royal Regiment of Canada Band is based at Fort York in Toronto and has a continuous tradition reaching back to 1863, making it the oldest permanently formed military band in Canada.  A decree by Queen Victoria authorized the Regiment to wear the distinctive scarlet uniform and bear skin cap of the "Guards" on all ceremonial occasions. The Royals Band has long been fortunate to have gifted and dedicated members, and these include symphonic, brass band and jazz players.

The Band appears at various functions across Canada and Internationally. These engagements include ‘live to air’ radio broadcasts, park concerts, military and civilian parades and military tattoos.  In recent years the band performed at The Stone Mountain Highland Games in Atlanta, GA, and tattoos in Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Whistler, BC.  During 2005 the Royals played in Edmonton for the Alberta Centennial Celebrations, The International Festival of Military Music in Quebec City and the Canadian International Military Tattoo in Hamilton, Ontario.  In June of 2006, The Royals represented Canada at the 16th Annual Festival of Military Music in Krakow, Poland. In November or 2009, the Regiment was presented with new Colours at Varsity Stadium in Toronto, by HRH Charles Prince of Wales, Colonel in Chief of the Royal Regiment of Canada. In April 2012 The Regiment commenced its 150th Anniversary celebrations with a Gala Band Concert, before a capacity audience at Toronto’s Koerner Hall. More recently, the Band has performed at Mount St Mary’s University in Gettysburg, PA and at The Living Arts Centre with the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra. Since 1992 the Band has performed an annual ‘Last Night of The Proms’ concert in Toronto’s St James Cathedral.

The Band is under the musical direction of Lieutenant Kevin Anderson, MusBac, BEd, CD – Director of Music and
Major (ret’d) Paul Weston MMus, ARCM, LRSM, MInstLM, RM – Associate Director of Music.

The Band performs by kind permission of LCol T.R.P. Payne CD - Commanding Officer
